How to Rotate Video using VLC and Save it Permanently

VLC is the one of free multimedia player app that available for many platforms such as Windows, Linux and Android. It is lightweight, not consumes high memory, and easy to use. It can plays most video formats such as MP4, MKV, AVI, WebM and many more. You can also use it to play your mp3.  In this post I’m going to share you how rotate a video using VLC.

There are a few steps to rotate a video using VLC which explained below.

The first step is choosing a video and open it with VLC.

Now you need to select a filter/a effect to apply by click Tools > Effects and Filters. You can use shortcut CTRL+E to access it.

Now go to tab Video Effects > Geometry. Check Transform and select how many degrees you want to rotate the video. For example I choose 90 degrees.

The next step is click Media > Convert / Save. Open Media box will show up. Now you need to add a video file you just opened. Make sure your video path is on the list. Click Convert / Save.

In this section you need to select video profile. I added MP4 file, so I choose Video – H.264 + MP3 (MP4). Click Edit profile the next.

Now uncheck Keep original video track, then select H-264 on Coded section. Delete the value of Bitrate and make sure the value is Not Used. Make sure Quality value is Not Used as well. Set the Frame Rate to Same as source. These settings is important to make sure the video is not losing its quality.

Now heading to tab Filters. Scroll down and find Video transformation filter and check it. Click Save.

Now, you need click Browse to set the destination file. Click Start to start conversion.

VLC is converting. It will save a copy of your video and apply the filter permanently. Wait until finished. Conversion process depends on how long the video duration is. Smaller video size means faster, bigger video size means takes longer.

Once it done, you need deactivate the effect you made before.

Now you can play the video. You can see that video was rotated.
